Darryl Conner, a corrections officer for 15 years, had been missing since Sunday

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey confirmed that the body found in a retention pond is that of a missing corrections officer.

Darryl Conner, of Titusville, was last seen Sunday morning at the Super 8 Motel on Garden Street. The body of the father of two was found in a pond across the street from the motel where he had been staying.

Conner's mother and father thanked search volunteers for their efforts.

"All of his staff, the volunteers that went looking for Darryl Conner -- thank you," said Conner's father Ollice Conner.

"My son was a born again Christian, and he is in heaven with the Lord," said Conner's mother Lula Conner. "We will see him again because he is born again."

Darryl Conner had been a corrections officer for about 15 years.

Authorities will investigate how Conner died, but family members said he had been acting uncharacteristically on Sunday when he checked into the motel.

It was not immediately known if Conner was the victim of foul play.
