SMYRNA, Ga. -- The archbishop of Atlanta will sell his $2.2 million dollar home in Buckhead.
Archbishop Wilton Gregory met with a number of parishioners Saturday before making the decision to sell the home in an exclusive neighborhood.
Gregory has apologized for building the residence as part of a $15 million dollar gift to the church from a former member.
It was on property also gifted to the Archdioceses.
"I have decided to sell the Habersham property, and invest the proceeds from that sale in to the needs of the community," he said.
Local Catholics said Gregory was not following the leadership of Pope Francis, who talks about the value of austerity.
Gregory moved to the home in Buckhead to make room for 6 priests, who will move in to his old residence.
The archbishop says he will move in early May and look for a more suitable location.
