JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man, who killed Richard Haddon in March of 2012 in the Pirate's Cove beach area, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

John Byron Swearingen, 47, and two others were hanging out when Swearingen became upset with Haddon, chasing him around a car with a knife.

According to the State Attorney's office, Haddon tried to get away from Swearingen but failed to do so and ended up being stabbed in the head by Swearingen.

In November, Swearingen was convicted of murder in the second degree with a weapon; he will now serve life in prison.

Assistant State Attorneys Garrett Hill and Janeed Mira prosecuted the case.
