JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The trial of Marissa Alexander was delayed on Thursday from March to July 28.

In 2012, Alexander was sentenced to 20 years in prison for firing what she contends was a warning shot to scare off her husband during an altercation.

Alexander was released on bond Nov. 27, 2013. Circuit Judge James Daniel ruled on Jan. 10 of this year that Alexander could remain on home detention while she awaited trial.

The trial was moved from March to July 28 because a motion for continuance was filed by the defense, according to Duval County Clerk of Court records.
