JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Chip Southworth, who called himself Keith Haring's Ghost, admits to painting these city owned traffic boxes, and even though he was caught off guard when police came to his home, handcuffed him and charged him with a felony.
He's out on bail facing a felony criminal mischief charge for painting traffic signal boxes throughout San Marco and Riverside.
"The community response has been incredible. The conversation has kicked up in high gear and I think we are going to have street art law here pretty shortly," he said.
First Coast News reached out to the city for a comment. The mayor's spokesman David DeCamp says the city is working with the cultural council to see how they can encourage creativity while making sure the assets taxpayers paid for function in the right way.
