JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Marshall Wood, an aviation expert with decades of experience, says there is no shortage of weapons that can reach airlines tens of thousands of feet in the sky.
"There are surface to air missiles absolutely that can do our and take out aircraft at the flight level that this aircraft was reported to be flying at," he said.
Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 crashed near the Ukraine / Russian border. Almost 300 people were on board. Wood says given the region of the world where the crash happened, a missile or weapon is far from out of the question.
"We're in a world where all bets are off - anything is possible," he said.
Wood says whatever happened, happened so quickly, the people on board likely didn't notice anything.
"It would have been instantaneous," he says.
