JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Anyone who has been through the wedding process will tell you that finding the right venue, choosing the correct linens and even naming a photographer to memorialize the day is a challenging task.

"A wedding planner will help you navigate all your wedding duties," said Cassandra Cherneski.

Cherneski is a wedding consultant and believes professionals like her are there to help a bride save time and money.

"A lot will help choose everything from the linens to the lighting," she said.

So at what point is it necessary? Cherneski said the decision should be made as early as possible. She said planners have a list of clients they've used before with strong references and they are there to guide brides through what can become a very stressful process.

The usual drawback is the cost. A wedding planner price tag is about 10 to 15 percent of the wedding budget. A wedding coordinator is much cheaper.

"A coordinator is going to be a flat fee," said Cherneski, "In Jacksonville, $800-to-$1,500."

She said the wedding coordinator is a lot like a planner, but will not handle quite as much as a planner.

"The coordinator comes into play on the actual day of the event," she said, "Their role is to be sure the napkins are set, greet the vendors, tell the cake person where to set up, things like that."

If you're on a tight budget, you may want to consider the do it yourself approach, but be prepared for a lot of work.

"If you're a bride that is really crafty, who likes creating things, you will like going the DIY route with a few caveats," said Cherneski, "If you're a working busy professional with little to no time, I don't know if you want to devote the free time that you have to the 200 plus hours it takes."

If you decide to do it yourself, Cherneski said to use a professional for the cake and your flowers, those areas can be tricky even if you are handy.

"If I was going to do DIY, I would do it with things that will not make or break the success of the day," she said.
