KENNESAW, Ga. -- Police have given the all-clear after students were warned of a possible armed man on the campus of Kennesaw State University Friday afternoon.
Tammy DeMel of KSU issued a statement saying, "At approximately 2 p.m. this afternoon, Kennesaw State police dispatch received a call about a suspicious man with a possible weapon in his pocket. As a precaution, university officials placed the campus on lockdown and searched for the individual.
"At approximately 3:30 p.m., police found the individual with a cell phone in his pocket and confirmed that he was not a threat and never posed a threat to the community. The lockdown has been lifted and the all clear issued."
Students received a text alert about a gunman on the school's Campus Green shortly after 2 p.m. The text read, "Possible armed man on Campus Green. There are reports of an armed man on the Campus Green. Shelter in and lock the door."
According to school officials, "Kennesaw State officials received a call about a suspicious man on campus with a possible weapon. Police are currently searching the campus but have not located anyone. As a precaution officials have placed the campus on lockdown."
The school campus was placed on lockdown as police investigated. Police gave the all-clear at 3:25 p.m.
