MAYPORT, Fla. -- There's a new Commander of the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant.
Adam Chamie took over for Stephen Burdian in a ceremony Friday at Naval Station Mayport.
"It's an honor," he said.
The Valiant, and the crew of 80, have been responsible for intercepting drugs, homeland security, and search and rescue at sea. Commander Chamie says it's a big responsibility, so looking our for the crew is critical.
"The expectation is that you get the ship safely from point A to point B and that you save lives and interdict drugs," he said. "What's really important is taking care of the crew," he added.
Valiant is the only Coast Guard Cutter based at Mayport.
