JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The family of a Georgia man who died in a Dec. 18, 2013 crash is suing the company that owns the truck that killed him.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jamin Middleton, 37, died after a logging truck owned by Pritchett Trucking Inc. slammed into the back of his truck. The driver of the vehicle "failed to observe traffic stopped" for road construction, "resulting in a chain reaction" crash. Eight vehicles were involved and closed US 301 for hours.

Curt Pajcic, attorney for Middleton's surviving wife and two sons, called the truck's failure to stop an avoidable tragedy. "Clearly this is a case of not just negligence but gross negligence," he said.

Middleton's' wife, Amber, spoke today about her husband and the impact of his loss. "He was just a country man that loved his family and loved his kids," she said. "It's unimaginable what you have to go through when you have to do it all yourself."

First Coast News has reached out to Pritchett and will post any response when we receive it.
