Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres signed defenseman Nikita Zadorov to a three-year, entry-level contract on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old Russian was taken with the second of Buffalo's two first-round picks in the June draft at 16th overall.
"Watching Nikita throughout training camp and the preseason has solidified our opinion that he will be a good, young hockey player for our organization going forward," Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said in a statement. "He has exceptional presence on the ice and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a player."
Zadorov posted six goals and 19 assists in 63 games for London of the Ontario Hockey League last season.
